Grease Duct Assemblies
This category covers the fire-resistive performance of grease duct assemblies intended to be used without a fire-resistance-rated shaft enclosure. These assemblies are investigated with respect to the ability of the grease duct, or combination of the grease duct and the enclosure, to act as a fire rated enclosure system and through-penetration firestop system. In addition, the test requirements evaluate the surface flammability and the smoke generation potential of the materials used to enclose the grease duct.
Grease duct assemblies are investigated in accordance with UL 2221, "Tests of Fire Resistive Grease Duct Enclosure Assemblies," or ASTM E 2336, "Standard Test Method for Fire Resistive Grease Duct Enclosure Systems." In addition, adjunct to the above investigation, grease duct assemblies may be investigated in accordance with the ICC Evaluation Services, Inc. AC101, "Acceptance Criteria for Grease Duct Enclosure Systems," dated October 2004, and/or the SBCCI Public Safety Testing and Evaluation Services Inc., "Evaluation Guide on Fire Resistance Construction (Flexible Duct Wrap Enclosure Systems)," dated January 1, 1998.
